WRITER | DIRECTOR
Stories That Matter. Written and Directed with Purpose.
A Director Who Understands the Actor's Truth.
I am an award-winning screenwriter and director with experience in writing for screen, stage and audio.
With an MA in Creative Writing (Distinction), films screened at 19 festivals, scripts longlisted and semi-finalled at competitive UK development funds, and the instincts of a working actor, I bring a rare compound perspective to every project I write and direct.
What I Bring
I came to writing and directing through acting.
After years of performing other people's words — on stage, on TV sets, in front of cameras — I began to understand what made a script genuinely alive. What separated the scenes that crackled from the ones that merely existed. What a director actually needed from the page to make something that worked.
So I started writing.
And directing.
And the two things fed each other in ways I hadn't anticipated. My writing became more performable because I understood instinctively what an actor needed on the page. My directing became more precise because I knew how to build to the truth from the inside out.
I specialise in issue-based drama: stories about the things that happen in real lives that mainstream storytelling rarely examines. Domestic violence. Sexual violence. Addiction. Class. Community. Grief. The silenced things.
I write and direct with rigour, empathy and an authentic emotional intelligence that comes from real human experience and a over decade of acting training.

Writing
Issue-based. Emotionally grounded. Precisely crafted.
I write the stories I haven't been able to find elsewhere.
The character who doesn't have the language to describe what's happening to her. The community that has been studied and categorised but never actually heard. The ordinary moment that contains an entire history.
My scripts are grounded in authentic human experience, not researched from a safe distance, but drawn from lived reality.
I hold an MA in Creative Writing with Distinction. I study the structural mechanics of story as seriously as I study character and dialogue. A script that doesn't work architecturally will never fully work emotionally, and I care about both.
I am drawn particularly to:
— Feature and short film drama
— High End Television: single dramas and series
— Theatre plays
— Audio dramas
— Issue-based and socially relevant material
— Character-led, emotionally complex narratives
— Stories where the personal and political intersect
If you commission a script from me, you get a writer who will advocate for the story, who can work collaboratively without losing the voice, and who understands what it costs — both artistically and practically — to make the work you're trying to make.

Directing
Authentic, precise, purposeful.
I begin with the story. Always.
Before a shot list. Before a schedule. I need to understand what this story is for and who it is for. What it asks of an audience. What it will cost them: emotionally, intellectually, morally.
Then I work backwards. Every decision — casting, design, lens choice, editing rhythm — serves that initial answer.
With actors, I am collaborative and specific. I give direction in terms of action, circumstance and relationship because telling an actor to 'be sad' produces a performance of sadness, not sadness itself.
I create a set environment where actors can take risks. Where the first take is rarely the best take. Where something real is more valuable than something safe.
And I have the production discipline to deliver, on time, on budget, with work the team is proud of. This is not an afterthought. This is what makes everything else possible.
I specialise in:
— Issue-based and socially relevant drama
— Character-led screen drama for film, television, stage and audio

"I'm so deeply moved by it. There is the most extraordinary amount of complexity suggested by such apparently simple exchanges."

"There was a great balance of dialogue here, allowing the audience to really see the emotion on the actors faces and within their body language. You really do feel immersed in the storyline when watching."
“I am loving the script. The dialogue is so tight - feels like a Pinter/Ayckbourn/Stoppard, it's fab!.”
